Less than a mile to the north and west, guests will find the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area (SRA), where more than 40 miles of multi-use trails wind through 5,000 acres of rolling hills, second-growth woodlands, ponds, and lakes where guests can boat, canoe, and fish for trout and sunfish. The SRA is home to a variety of birds, with recorded sightings of 17 species of shorebirds, 19 species of warblers, and well over 100 species of birds in total.

Less than a mile to the south, guests will find Serpent Lake, where they can go boating, swimming, and fishing for bass, crappie, northern pike, and walleye amid the lake's 1,057 acres of surface area and more than nine miles of shoreline dotted with birch, pine, and oak trees. About 10 minutes further south, guests will find Bay Lake, which is about twice as large as Serpent Lake. Here, guests will also find Bay Lake Marine, from which they can rent out boats.

The bed and breakfast is about a mile from the town of Crosby and 2.5 miles from the town of Deerwood, where guests will find a variety of shops and restaurants, along with attractions such as the Museum Range Historical Society and Cuyuna Rolling Hills golf course. It is about an hour and 45 minutes from Duluth, Minnesota, where guests will find the nearest international airport.

At the nearby Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area (SRA), guests can go hiking and biking on the paved, eight-mile Cuyuna Lakes State Trail and a 25-mile single track mountain bike trail system. The recreation area also contains 40 miles of trails for fat biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

While exploring the trails, guests will find many opportunities for birdwatching, with well over 100 species of birds having been sighted in the SRA.

Guests can go canoeing, kayaking, scuba diving, and trout fishing in the SRA's many ponds and lakes, and they can go swimming at the beach at its Portsmouth Campground. More opportunities for fishing and swimming, as well as boating, can be found on Serpent Lake and Bay Lake.

Mountain bikes, kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards can be rented from Cycle Path and Paddle, which is based in Crosby, just three minutes away from the bed and breakfast.
