Great Glamping Destination Perfect for Bird Watching in Ponca, Nebraska

Situated on the picturesque Missouri River bluffs in northeastern Nebraska, Ponca State Park is a popular destination for nature lovers and those looking for robust recreational offerings. Campers at Ponca can hike, swim, canoe, kayak, fish, horseback ride, golf and partake in many naturalist-led activities. Bird watching is a popular pastime at Ponca, and the National Audubon Society has listed this park as one of the most important bird-watching areas in the United States.

There are 22 miles of multi-use trails to explore in this expansive park and a tri-state overlook offers a picturesque vista of the Missouri River and views of three states: Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa. Those looking to perfect their chip shot can book a tee time at the Highland Oaks, a challenging 9-hole public golf course on the southern boundary of the park. Riflery and archery are also options at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. There are two boat ramps at Ponca as well as a canoe/kayak launch.

The Missouri River has great fishing and anglers commonly catch catfish, sauger, walleye, drum, and other river species. The park also offers youth fishing programs and a fishing tackle loaner program.

Noteworthy events at Ponca include the annual Missouri River Outdoor Expo in mid-September with over 80 activities and Octobers Hallowfest celebration with haunted hayrack rides, pumpkin roll contests, and other family-friendly entertainment.

Riverview A is located approximately 1 mile from the park entrance and is located near the boat launch. This open-air campsite is the shortest distance from parking and is good for families with very young children who want a quick unload from their vehicle to the site or for campers with wheelchairs or limited mobility. Your campsite features a spacious 10 x 12 platform tent with a queen bed as well as a pop-up tent that can accommodate 4 additional campers. A picnic table, firepit and two Adirondack chairs are also included. There is a Loo (camping potty) at your campsite for convenience. Campers will also be able to access the nearby park bathroom with flushable toilets and sinks. Showers are in the next washhouse over and can be used by campers.

Other Things to Note:
- Pack your own food, water, firewood, bedding, bug spray and flashlights
- There is no electricity, AC, or heater at your site, pack accordingly
- Anything you pack in, you must pack out. This is "leave no trace" camping and all sites will be inspected for cleanliness and damages before the next camper
- All trash MUST be deposited in the designated trash receptacle that is labeled on the map.Please notes : If you do not follow this rule, you will be charged a cleaning fee of at least $50
- Pets are allowed. Please keep all pets on leashes(we recommend 6 ft), and DO NOT let your pets near or swim in any bodies of water.
- Please remember to respect and keep your distance from our wildlife in the park. Feeding any wildlife is prohibited. Be aware and watch all surrounding areas when going off trail.
