This woodland cottage rental overlooks Raccoon Creek, in southeastern Ohio (Gallia County). The one-bedroom rental is perfect for couples looking for a weekend escape. Guests will love waking up here, in the Simmons Beautyrest, queen-size mattress before heading out for a new day's adventure or just spending the day rejuvenating and relaxing in our serene setting.

The kitchen is a fully equipped space, with modern appliances including a blender and a Keurig coffee maker with K-cups. There is bar seating at the one-of-a-kind horseshoe bar, which is made of hickory with a walnut top. Guests even have a dishwasher for easy cleanup after meals. Moving into the living room, guests will find the area to be a spacious and comfortable place to relax, with vaulted ceilings and tv (antenna channels) plus a DVD player (assortment of DVD's available).

Guests have a covered deck with patio furniture where they can dine al fresco. There is also a brick patio covered by a pergola, to the side of the cottage, where guests can gather around the fire pit. Best of all, the cottage has a hot tub right next to the deck, perfect for relaxing after a hike or fishing down by the creek.

This property provides guests with a comfortable country getaway with all the modern conveniences they might be looking for in a vacation rental. Outside of the rental, guests have a patio area with a barbecue grill and fire pit. Guests in the past have loved coming home to have a family barbecue or to roast marshmallows under the starry night sky. There is also a private hot tub where guests can relax after a hike through Hocking Hills or visiting the nearby suspension bridge (Morgan's Raider's Historic Site) or taking a walk on the short hike and bike trail.

This property is a fantastic place to come to enjoy the outdoors. It is surrounded by trees and overlooks Raccoon Creek. If guests bring their own equipment, they can get out on the creek with kayaks or canoes to explore the area from the water. Those guests who enjoy fishing should certainly think of bringing their fishing rods and see what bites as the creek near the Vinton Dam are a popular place for locals to fish. Another area to fish in Gallia County is Tycoon Lake approximately five miles away.

Lake Hope is 35 miles away and Lake Alma is 24 miles away, and are both in Vinton County. They have healthy populations of saugeye, catfish, bass, and sunfish. For those guests who are not such enthusiastic anglers, they need not worry for there is plenty more to do outside in the area. Part of the Gatewood Trail System is 15 miles of a single track nestled in the shadow of Bob Evans Farms and the University of Rio Grande. This noodle bowl of trails offers premier hiking and mountain biking.

The Hocking Hills area is a short forty-minute drive from the property. With acres of enchanting woodlands, waterfalls, and gorges, it's a perfect place for the avid outdoorsman, or woman, to explore. Popular destinations that guests have enjoyed include Ash Cave and Old Man's Cave, the Cantwell Cliffs, Cedar Falls, Rockbridge, and Conkel's Hollow.

During the holiday season, the county seat of Gallipolis, becomes a postcard for Hallmark. Gallipolis in Lights begins on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and runs until the beginning of the new year. Gallipolis-in-Lights is a spectacular, must-see event. Also, Bob Evans Farms hosts a fall festival at the Homestead each fall on the second weekend in October. The Village of Rio Grande puts off an amazing fireworks show on that Saturday of the festival called Rockets Over Rio. Gallipolis offers a beautiful downtown city park, a park front area with a great view of the beautiful Ohio River, and several quaint shops. Gallia County has two great wineries, which are Merry Family Winery and Craft Beer and Twisted Vine Vineyards.

The Mothman Museum is not far from the cottage. It is just across the river from Gallipolis in Pt. Pleasant, WV. There is so much to see and do in the area but with the peaceful rest and relaxation that our guests find at the cottage and its tranquil surroundings, it might be hard to find one really good reason to leave the cottage at all during their stay.
