Location + Surroundings
This safari tent is located in Keystone, South Dakota, where it is situated within a multi-acre glamping site nestled among the Black Hills on the outskirts of a former gold mining settlement. Mount Rushmore lies just a few miles away and can be seen right from the site, which is stippled with towering pine trees.
The site is surrounded by Black Hills National Forest, which encompasses more than 1.25 million acres of hills, mountains, canyons, rugged rock formations, gulches, grassland prairies, meadows, and verdant forests full of ponderosa pines, aspens, bur oaks, and birches. These pristine landscapes and environments are dotted with 11 reservoirs and laced with 1,300 miles of streams and 353 miles of trails, providing ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. They are also home to a rich diversity and abundance of wildlife and birdlife, including mule deer, elk, bison, prairie dogs, coyotes, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, bald eagles, ospreys, and peregrine falcons.
To the south, guests will find Custer State Park, which provides a habitat for a herd of 1,500 free-roaming bison, among many other animals, including river otters and cougars. It is also home to the "Begging Burros"—a group of about 50 feral donkeys who beg for food from visitors, some of whom come to the park just to feed the donkeys.
Guests will have no shortage of excursion options during their getaway; other attractions in the region include Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Badlands National Park. The site is just 12 minutes away from the town of Keystone, where guests will find a variety of shops, restaurants, and an outdoor adventure park called Rushmore Tramway Adventures.
The site is about 35 minutes from Rapid City, where the nearest regional airport is located, and six hours from Denver, where guests will find the nearest international airport. Read More
