Rochford
Founded after three 19th century hunters accidentally discovered what would become the Montezuma gold mine in South Dakota’s Black Hills, the small town of Rochford provides a perfect base for glampers wishing to explore the rich history and epic scenery of the region. From historic Deadwood whose well-preserved frontier architecture transports visitors back to the days of Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane, and Mount Rushmore, South Dakota’s most visited attraction, to the Crazy Horse Memorial, destined on completion to become the largest sculpture in the world, history lovers will be well served by the area. Outdoors enthusiasts will fall in love with the pine-strewn, rocky slopes of the range, with the 100-mile long George S. Mickelson Trail allowing hikers to explore the area on old railroad tracks. Additionally, two nearby ski resorts at Deer Mountain and Terry Peak will appeal to winter sports fans.
