Spearfish

Spearfish lies at the northern end of South Dakota’s Black Hills, beside the canyon of the same name, which was declared to be more magnificent even than the Grand Canyon itself by no less an expert on aesthetics than architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The canyon features wildlife ranging from bobcats to blue jays and bald eagles and richly rewards exploration by rock climbers, photographers and hikers alike. However, this is only the beginning of the area’s appeal to glampers. Nearby Deadwood’s well-preserved frontier architecture will transport visitors back to a bygone age of adventure and romance, while outdoors lovers will relish the chance to tackle sections of the 100-mile long George S. Mickelson Trail which leads walkers through some of the most dramatic scenery of the Black Hills. Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse memorial, and Wind Cave National Park are also all within range.
