Be prepared to get wet trying this exciting and healthy life sport.

Fishing: The Lake Namakagon is the 10th largest natural lake in Wisconsin and boasts all manner of game fish – walleye, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, perch, panfish, northern, and trophy muskie all call this lake their water home. As one of the renowned Hayward Area Lakes, the surrounding area has numerous great fisheries, offering a variety of locales so you can be sure the fish will always be biting. The forest is also home to many streams and rivers offering fantastic trout fishing and even fly fishing for the mighty muskellunge. For those interested in some big water fishing, Lake Superior is a mere 40 miles away and offers the finest lake trout and salmon fisheries in the Midwest. We regularly see musky catches of 40” or more! This lake also offers abundant walleye, bass, northern pike, crappies and panfish – all suitable for the wall or frying pan. The marina stocks live bait and tackle, plus all the gas and oil needed to keep your rig up and running. Fishing guides are also available.

Mountain biking: There are over three hundred miles of mapped and marked trails outside your door to greet the mountain bike enthusiast. The trail system stretches from Hayward to Iron River, putting the site at the hub of Wisconsin's best mountain biking destinations! The site offers mountain bike rentals for your group at the full-service marina.

Golf: Forest Ridges Golf Course is one the best courses in the Northwoods, or the entire Midwest for that matter. Midwest Golfer Magazine says, “Everyone in the Midwest should play this course at least once”. It was also voted “Best Place to Play” by Golf Digest Magazine. Lessons are available for any skill level. A spot of advice, though, is to reserve your tee times in advance, and bring your camera! Every Monday is the Monday Night Scramble. It’s a chance to play an awesome course, make some new friends, eat some food and win some prizes, all for just $20! Sign up at the front desk. Individuals, couples and groups of four are encouraged to come play! Starts at 5:00.

Horseback Riding: Enjoy a scenic horseback ride. Pony rides are also available for just $5 per person. Horseback riding rates are $23 per person and $22 per person for groups of 6 or more.

Hayward KOA: Waterslide ($10), kayaking and canoeing on the Namakagon River. Tubing trips are $9 for 1½ hours; kayak trips are $30.00 with a $25; and canoe trips are $35 with a $25 deposit. Kayak/canoe trips are 3½ hours.

Cable Natural History Museum: A must for every visitor is the Cable Natural History Museum, with wildlife displays including birds of prey, songbirds, mammals and insects. The museum has many special workshops and outdoor programs that offer natural history and science education for all ages.
Wilderness Walk: Hayward's Family Fun Spot - 35 acres of Northwood's fun. Home to various types of animals including white tail deer, buffalo, and a Siberian tiger. Learn about the animals, tour the old west town, pan for gold and visit the farmyard.

Lake Namakagon: It is the 10th largest natural lake in Wisconsin, and the property is located on its southernmost shoreline and offers a full-service marina to handle all your fishing, boating and water-related desires. From paddle bikes to the queen of the pontoon fleet, you will have everything you need to enjoy a day or two (or more!) on the water.
