The Lewis and Clark Expedition Trail is close by and is the original trail used by Lewis and Clark to explore the newly purchased American northwest in 1805. Sacajawea, the famous Native American who helped the two on their expedition, was born and raised in the Lemhi River Valley, and there is a museum dedicated to her in downtown Salmon.
