At Capitol Reef National Park, guests will find nearly 200 miles of marked trails and backcountry routes on which they can go hiking through the park's 243,921 acres of spectacular desert landscape. Guests can also explore the park by bike, on horseback, or by car.

A variety of designated roads are open to cyclists and/or motorists, such as the appropriately named Scenic Drive, the Cathedral Valley Loop, and South Draw Road. For horseback riding, guests can explore the Old Wagon Trail, Halls Creek, the South Desert, and the South Draw.

Guests can also go rock climbing at the park. The most popular site for climbing is Wingate cliff, which has naturally fractured walls and hard stone walls that lend themselves to the use of chocks, nuts, and camming devices.

While exploring the park, guests will have ample opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife viewing, with 239 species of birds, 71 species of mammals, 15 species of reptiles, five species of amphibians, and 13 species of native fish sighted within its boundaries, including mule deer, gray foxes, mountain lions, desert bighorn sheep, desert spiny lizards, midget faded rattlesnakes, peregrine falcons, golden eagles, and Mexican spotted owls.

For more enjoyment of the great outdoors on land, guests can head to Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, where they can go hiking, biking, ATV riding, and rock climbing. For water-based recreation, guests can head to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, where they can go boating, fishing, swimming, and kayaking on Lake Powell and the Colorado River
