The Black Hills National Forest, situated just across the border with South Dakota is well-known as the site of Mount Rushmore and comprises 1.2 million acres of mountainous terrain and forest. Visitors can undertake various outdoor activities here, including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and rock climbing. The area is also excellent for wildlife viewing. There are elk, deer, bison, mountain lions, and several other species. Yellowstone National Park is slightly further afield but is a unique National Park that is well worth visiting. The park features hot springs, geysers, sprawling forests, and a huge array of wildlife.
