Biddeford is comprised of the resort communities of Biddeford Pool, Fortunes Rocks, and Granite Point. It is the site of one of the earliest European settlements in the United States and is home to The University of New England and the annual La Kermesse Franco-Americaine Festival.
Biddeford Pool, or “The Pool" as the locals call it, is a scenic beachfront village that wraps around Biddeford, with only one road in and out. Cycling is the best way to get around the village to glimpse the quaint, lush neighborhoods and gorgeous beachfront and inland homes. A trip to Goldthwaite’s will guarantee a classic village experience and a taste of the best lobster in southern Maine.
The resort town of Kennebunkport is just 21 minutes from Biddeford and offers fantastic beaches and unique landmarks. The closest major airport is Boston Logan International Airport which is 90 miles from Biddeford.

Biddeford Pool is a must-see destination despite locals wishing to keep their adorable little village a secret. There is a historic walking trail along its rocky edges and a leisurely stroll to East Point Sanctuary offers spectacular views of the Maine Coast. Along the way, guests will see the Wood Island Lighthouse, Saco Bay, and the Gulf of Maine. Biddeford Pool is a popular spot for paddleboarding as well.
A day trip to Kennebunkport can include lazing on the beach, kayaking, fishing charters, and whale watching. Guests should be sure to pay a visit to Cape Porpoise to see the Goat Island Lighthouse and Parsons Way to experience the Blowing Cave and Spouting Rock. Families may enjoy heading to Palace Playland and Funtown Splashtown for amusement rides, arcades, waterslides, and more.
A 40-minute drive north from Kennebunkport leads to Portland where visitors can indulge in the "hip food and art scene." Another 20 minutes beyond Portland is Freeport, which is home to the original L.L. Bean Flagship Store. Visitors should be sure to pose with the 16-foot-tall boot outside the store - a "must-do" when in Maine! A number of outdoor activities are offered by the store including fly-casting lessons and a free “Bike and Brew” cycling ride.
