The secluded, rustic log cottage is decorated with memorabilia, maps, and photos of historic coastal Maine. The antique wooden furniture and exposed high beams in the ceiling give the cottage a rustic, old-timey feel, with the surrounding serenity and seclusion of the woods and the lake just outside the front door. The living room is furnished with a long, comfortable sofa and lamps that cast a yellow glow across the wood-paneled walls. The bedrooms are similarly decorated, with large mattresses and dressers for guests' clothes and belongings. The cottage has three bedrooms, making it ideal for one or two couples or a small family.

The wrap around front porch offers scenic views of Cathance Lake, and the fire pit is just a short walk down one of the dirt paths. A rack of canoes is situated just a few feet away from the deck, and the wood plank dock on the lake has its own chair facing the water. Quiet and secluded, the cottage is located directly on the shore, giving it unrestricted and expansive views of the lake.

Formerly used as a Maine canoe outfitting base for over 40 years, this historic property has now reverted to a small private compound. With no other rental units on the property, guests will have all of the beauty of Washington County and Eastern Maine to themselves on four acres of private wooded land with docks, wooded trails, a small camping area, garden, and several outdoor fireplaces. The main dock is 25 feet and outfitted with a platform and Adirondack bench. There is a second smaller dock, with a rocker - that has long been considered an 'icon' of Cathance Lake.

With plenty of room and privacy to relax, this glamping site is perfect for enjoying one of the finest settings in eastern Maine.

The swimming - in spring fed water - is superb; there is a small protected shallow entry area directly in front of the camp. Known primarily as Salmon Lake, fishing for smallmouth bass is excellent in the summer months. The lake is over 3000 acres, with several distinct sections. Canoes are included with the rental.

Due to the somewhat remote situation of Washington County, accurate GPS address coverage is not uniformly available, and cell phone service is also intermittent in the region's interior. Prospective guests should note that they meet the host at the office in Bangor, ME. The office is located on the Bangor waterfront, just off the Interstate 95, and directly en route to the interior and the cottage - for detailed maps and directions, as well as additional info on the property's features, and any and all info on the highlights of the surrounding area. A mid-day rendezvous on the day of arrival is strongly recommended - to allow incoming guests plenty of time to travel the remaining two hours to the cottage on Cathance, plus purchasing groceries, supplies, and Maine fishing licenses (if desired) - all conveniently close by. (Many people stay either in town or perhaps in Portland, ME (2 hours south) the evening before. Rental paperwork will also be completed at this time. Further details will be sent to confirmed guests, and all questions gladly answered.

Be kind to the environment and take care of the surroundings.
