With a kayak/canoe launch right on the property, guests will be in an ideal location to enjoy paddling on the Machias River and Machias Bay. Guided trips and rentals are available from Sunrise Canoe and Kayak.

For hiking, guests will find trails at Machias River Preserve, Middle River Park, and Roque Bluffs State Park. At the latter, guests can also go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on the park's trails; canoeing, kayaking, and fishing on Simpson Pond; swimming in Englishman's Bay; and birdwatching in the park's woodlands beaches, with species such as bald eagles, Gadwall ducks, pipers, and plovers to be spotted.

Other options include attending ornithology workshops, art galleries, and a variety of cultural programs at the University of Maine at Machias.
