The cottage was once the site of one of the oldest in the village, and is perched very close to the water's edge. However, after the original antique was destroyed in a fire about a decade ago, the rental was totally rebuilt from the foundation; the result is a new and open cottage with soaring ceilings and window after window overlooking the tidal harbor.
On the first level, this cottage offers a great room with a soaring ceiling and giant windows. This space has a soaring cathedral ceiling with ceiling fan, a 50" smart television with Direct TV, a smart DVD player, and a small drop leaf table with four chairs. There is a full kitchen with a full-size fridge, a stove, a dishwasher, and plenty of cooking tools. Also on the first floor is a bedroom with a queen-size bed, a memory foam mattress, and a full bathroom across the hall with a washer and dryer. The second floor comes with a loft master bedroom, a king-size bed, and a half bathroom.
Guests should note that the hosts have many guests who seek out their cottage, specifically because it's tidal. The cottage is very close to the Bay of Fundy in Canada, which has the highest tidal ranges in the world and is one of the seven wonders of the world. These extreme tidal areas are the reasons many tourists come to these spots, not only for the phenomenon of the extreme tides but also for the amazing bird watching as well as the sea creatures drawn to the area.
Twice a day, the water recedes almost completely from the harbor, and twice a day, water fills the basin. It’s fascinating to see the fishermen access their traps by driving their truck directly on the ocean floor in the middle of the harbor during low tide, just where boats had been a few hours before. Activities like kayaking, must be timed to high tides, twice per day.

Bucks Harbor is the working fishing/lobstering village in the town of Machiasport, Maine. Guests will hear the boats in the harbor and the caw of the gulls and breathe in the salty ocean air. The harbor is filled with fishing and other commercial vessels and floats piled with lobster traps. Guests never know what kind of boat will be pulled up on the beach or moored in the harbor. Across the water, they will see the commercial pier loading and unloading often at the salmon farm.
Both across the water and sometimes, just across the street, guests might hear the of sheep as they graze the various surrounding fields.
