Chatham is a classic New England town at the southeastern tip of the peninsula known for its beaches, especially the aptly names Lighthouse Beach, showcasing its 19-century lighthouse. The beaches here are the best in Cape Cod with miles of pristine white sand and plenty of opportunities to swim and sunbathe. For those with an interest in historical architecture, Chatham has some of the best-preserved homes and buildings over a century old.
Just off the coast of Chatham is the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, providing a vast habitat for wildlife such as many species of birds, horseshoe crabs, and seals. The visitor’s center has many resources to learn about the wildlife and participate in educational activities.
The nearest international airport is the Boston Logan International Airport at just over an hour and a half away by car.
Adventures and sports
From the cape, glampers can take a ferry to check out the charming islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Provincetown is a fun-loving stop at the tip of the peninsula is home to many painters, photographers, writers, and poets. There are many art museums and galleries as well as places to learn about the rich culture and history.
You can book a cruise to view seals or watch them from the Chatham Fish Pier as the fishing boats go in and out into the water. There is a lot of beautiful natural scenery that can be enjoyed particularly in the many conservation and preservation areas and the several walking and biking trails and parks throughout the area. Golf is also a popular sport here, with of one of the most gorgeous golf courses overlooking the ocean.
Glampers can take a short ferry ride to the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge. Fishing is a popular activity on the island, and glampers are required to have a permit before throwing out a line. There are many walking trails here with information boards at each trailhead that has information about the foliage and wildlife to be found in that particular area.
