Chappaquiddick Island is a small and quiet island, that has little development and a lot of nature. The Cape Poge Lighthouse on the far north end of the island lies the most isolated of the five lighthouses on Martha's Island. The Cape Pog beach is a peaceful location, that extends seven miles from Wasque Point to the lighthouse. A great way to see the island is by renting bikes; the island is the ideal size to explore via bike.
There are a number of activities to discover on Martha's Island itself. In Oak Bluff, the gingerbread cottages are a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the area, located just behind Circuit Ave sits the collection of brightly-painted victorian summer cottages, guests will feel transported back in time with the tiny streets and cluttered yards. Oak Bluffs also has the oldest carousel in the world, the Flying Horses, and only costs $2.50 a ride.
The beaches are tranquil and relaxing. Jersey Shore is a popular choice; it has calm waters, a waterfront park and shops. However, there are numerous other beaches to choice from on the island, such as East Beach and Aquinnah Beach. A more unique attraction to the island is the Alpaca farm, Island Alpaca. It is a favorite with all the family, getting up close and personal with the Huacaya alpacas. The island also boasts a number of state forests, such as the Manuel F Correllus State Forest, a great place to explore.
