The center of Franconia is just a few miles to the north, and there are a number of other small towns nearby—including Bethlehem, Sugar Hill, Lisbon, and Littleton, which offer opportunities for shopping, dining, and entertainment. The site is about an hour and 20 minutes east of Montpelier, Vermont; an hour and a half north of Manchester, New Hampshire; two hours and 20 minutes north of Boston, Massachusetts; two and a half hours west of Portland, Maine; and three hours south of Montreal, Quebec.

No matter the season, guests will find a wide range of options for outdoor recreation and adventure at Franconia Notch State Park and the surrounding area. In the warmer seasons, they can hike or bike through the numerous hiking or biking trails in the region—with bike rentals available from Franconia Notch Park and Franconia Village Sports Shop. They can also swim, fish, and boat at Echo Lake, which is only two miles away and offers paddleboat and canoe rentals; go maple sugaring at Rocks Estate; ride horses at Franconia Notch Stables; check out New Hampshire's iconic covered bridges and waterfalls; or visit one of the many art galleries and antique stores in the area.
In the winter, guests can take advantage of more than 37 miles of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing right from their doorsteps. At Franconia Notch State Park, they will also find opportunities for downhill skiing and snowmobiling. Those interested in a furrier mode of transportation across the snow can visit Fantastic Muddy Paw Dog Sledding, and those wanting to glide on the ice can visit one of the ice-skating rinks in Franconia, Littleton, and Bethlehem.
