The town is bookended to the east and west by two natural areas: East Matunuck State Beach and Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge. At the latter, guests will find 787 acres of protected wildlife habitats, which include fields, saltwater ponds, sandy beaches, dunes, shrublands, and woodlands. These habitats are home to more than 40 mammal species, 20 reptile and amphibian species, and 300 bird species. There are two miles of nature trails and four viewing platforms from which guests can spot the wildlife.
The town of South Kingstown is only an 11-minute drive away. Here and in the surrounding area, guests will find more restaurants and other local attractions, such as Whaler's Brewery and the Theatre by the Sea. Besides beer brewed on site, the brewery also provides guests with pool tables, cornhole, and a giant Jenga set. The theater specializes in musicals and also has a bistro where guests can dine before or after shows.
The location is about 50 minutes from Providence, where the nearest international airport is located, along with day trip opportunities to see historical sites and museums, such as the Marble House (once the summer home of the Vanderbilt family), the Touro Synagogue (the oldest Synagogue in America), and the Slater Mill Historic Site (a textile mill dating back to 1793).
