Scenic views
Set in a charming farmhouse from the 1800s, the bed and breakfast is surrounded by 25 bucolic acres of farmland, fields, woods, ponds, apple blossom trees, flower gardens, and organic vegetable gardens, replete with a barn and a chicken coop. The gardens are filled with more than 100 varieties of flowers, and trout lily and trillium can be found growing amid the woods, where Vermont's famous fall foliage is on full display come September and October. The grounds are visited by wild turkeys, great blue herons, a variety of migrating birds, and the occasional moose, while frogs live in the lily-pad-dotted ponds. Other residents of the property include the hosts' chickens and border collies.
Right across the road from the bed and breakfast, guests will find the Third Branch of the White River, which is home to rainbow, brown, and brook trout. To the east and west lies Roxbury State Forest, which encompasses 5,509 acres of backcountry woods, headwater streams, mountain slopes, and rolling hills, which provide habitats for white-tailed deer, moose, and black bears. Other nearby attractions include the Roxbury Fish Hatchery, the Trijang Buddhist Institute, the Northfield Golf Club, and the four covered bridges of Northfield, all of which are within 15 minutes of the bed and breakfast.
Within a 30-minute drive, guests can also reach Morse Farm Sugarworks, the Ben & Jerry's factory, Barre Opera House, Chandler Music Hall, and the capital city of Montpelier, along with two alpine skiing and two cross-country skiing areas: Mad River Glen Ski Area, Sugarbush Ski Area, Ole's XC Ski Area, and Blueberry Lake Ski Center. The bed and breakfast is about an hour from Burlington, where guests will find Vermont's biggest city and the nearest international airport.
