McKinley

McKinley is the former name of what is now called Denali Mountain. Indeed, Denali had been the name of the mountain for centuries amongst the local Koyukon people, but a gold prospector named in Mount McKinley in 1896 in support of then-presidential candidate William McKinley, a name that stuck until 2015. Despite the naming confusion, the mountain and surrounding nature are truly stunning and well worth seeing. There is so much to see and do here, from hiking on one of the numerous nature trails, rafting, taking a wagon ride, flightseeing, horseback riding, or canoeing. The park is home to 37 species of mammals, ranging from lynx, marmots, arctic ground squirrels, foxes, snowshoe hares, and many more.
