Eco-Friendly Cottage and Spa on Avocado Farm on Big Island, Hawaii
"We had a wonderful time in the Eco cottage. Nikki is very friendly. You can buy fresh fruit and veggies from her. Don't expect something similar to a…"
This rental is part of a shared eco-cottage, which was just completed in December of 2012. It is mostly outdoor living so it is for the adventurous at heart. The cottage is designed to let guests enjoy a natural setting. Relax and take in the nature that surrounds the property. This private rental comes with a bunk bed with full and twin mattresses. In the wintertime, it can get cool at this elevation and the home is single wall construction so it can get chilly at night.
There is a large lanai with an ocean view, an outdoor kitchen with a full refrigerator, two burner stove, sink, dishes, and all basics guests will need for the kitchen, as well as an outdoor grill. There is a bamboo-walled outdoor shower and bathroom with an outhouse. Everything is kept clean and tidy although it is mostly outdoors so there are geckos, creepy crawlers, and bugs all around (if guests are allergic to these things they may want to check into a hotel instead).
If guests have a larger group, there is also a farmhouse that they can rent. The spacious redwood home has a 24'x24' living room with four skylights and a large lanai overlooking the avocado field. The home is fully furnished and the large country kitchen is loaded with everything guests will need. There is a full bath indoors but if guests have never had an outdoor rainwater shower they are in for a treat with the heavenly outdoor garden shower. There is a Far-Infrared TheraSauna on the property and available for adult use at a very low rate or complimentary with a therapeutic massage.
High-speed internet and long distance phone services are provided. There is also a full range of discounted spa services available on site for guests. Everything is provided for guests to take to the beach like lawn chairs, towels, and coolers. Snorkel equipment is available for $25/week. Organic fruits and veggies are available for purchase from the gardens and land.
The water source is 100% rainwater caught from the roof of the home and stored in catchment tanks. County water is made available to guests in the kitchen for drinking. Solar panels, which are hooked to the grid right now, provide some of the electricity.
The owner, lives on the property in the ohana which is about 50 yards away from the cottage. If guests would like, she would be happy to give a farm tour and share her knowledge of Natural Farming.
She will also help guests with things to do, places to go and local happenings. Guests who prefer to have 100% privacy, she will accommodate this as well. The farm is a working, organic, natural property with 17 chickens, two friendly outdoor cats, plants, trees, and gardens; therefore, she will also be around tending to the farm.
