Location + Surroundings

This cottage rental is located in Gorda, California, and is situated beside the coast around 40 miles south of the town center of Big Sur, undoubtedly one of the state's top natural attractions and renowned for its rugged coastline and lack of mass tourism. Due to how the Saint Lucia Mountains rise directly up from the ocean along this Central Coast region, space is limited but the views are always magnificent from California's State Route 1. Along the Big Sur region, there are countless natural areas that are well worth a visit, including the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, which features waterfalls and lookouts, and Limekiln State Park, noted for its dense redwood forests. It's over an hour away, but Bixby Bridge is an engineering marvel that's gaining popularity due to its exposure on the HBO series Big Little Lies. Connections to San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and more are available from Monterey Regional Airport, 65 miles away. Read More

From the property, whale watching is possible throughout the entire year, with blue whales visible from June to October, humpback whales from April to December, and grey whales from December to May. These majestic marine mammals frequently breach just off the coast and seeing one in the wild is an experience unlikely to be forgotten. Hikers will have a field day (or two) exploring the rugged landscapes of the Big Sur region, with trails snaking through the Saint Lucia Mountains every few miles or so, allowing guests to get acquainted with the stunning Los Padres National Forest.

At beaches such as McWay and Pfeiffer, guests can go for a refreshing dip or they can head to one of the spa centers along Big Sur, including the Esalen Institute and Namaste Therapeutic Bodyworks.
