This northeastern corner of California is an outdoor lover’s paradise, with safe-to-explore volcanoes, vast lush forests, rivers, waterfalls, and lakes to explore. Ideally located near the upper Sacramento River, guests staying at this accommodation will not have to stray far to fish in blue-ribbon trout streams, take a picnic by a waterfall, or enjoy cooling off in one of the area's many swimming holes. The quaint Dunsmuir, a former railway town, has plenty to offer the discerning traveler including a microbrewery pub, a farmer's market, and plenty of railroad history to discover. The dramatic granite spires of Castle Crags are nearby, the centerpiece of a beautiful state park where guests will find 28 miles of hiking trails and excellent fishing opportunities.
The Mount Shasta region also offers excellent road and mountain biking, from single tracks in the Shasta National Forest to backcountry destinations like Kangaroo Lake or Castle Lake. The majestic Mount Shasta, a potentially active volcano and the second-highest peak in the Cascades Range, offers a range of activities year-round. In winter months, the area transforms into a haven for snowsports, including backcountry skiing and snowboarding, cross-country, and sledding. Mount Shasta Board and Ski Park is an excellent downhill resort, with 425 skiable acres, snow parks, and even night skiing.
