There are two ways in. One has an eight mile dirt road which is more bumpy, the other route via Auburn is a three mile dirt road which is usually better maintained. Either way, a Prius can make the drive, just know the road into Heartland is bumpy. If guests are coming from Sacramento or through Sacramento on the way here, the best route is through Auburn.

Glampers will have plenty to do during their vacation in California. Getaways here mean that guests can enjoy a dip in Camp Far West Lake, watch the fantastic sunsets, and walk through the fields with the cows that roam free.

Guests should note that the lake is a reservoir and it is low between Sep-November. Swimming is still possible but the walk to the swimmable area of the lake is longer. During this time the bottom of the lake offers remarkable river hikes and within a 15-minute drive away there is a really scenic clear water swimming hole with a tire swing.

The hosts also recommend a day trip to the famous Yuba river, which is roughly an hour away.
