There are so many options for activities while staying at this cozy cabin. Free stand-up paddleboard mini-lessons and demos are available for guests on the slow and easy river, which has an eddy on the side of the cabins that runs slowly upstream. Guests can swim in the river or the nearby ponds, which have much warmer water.
Guests can kayak with one of the owners of the property, who happens to be the only person in the world to have paddled the Pacific Ocean from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. He offers year-round classes from basic to advanced. There’s no age limit nor fitness requirements, other than that guests must generally be of good health.
Kayak, SUP, and raft rentals and guided trips are available for an extra charge. Paddling Lewiston Lake is a guest favorite. The scenic route has a 10 MPH speed limit, and always stays at about the same level.
Guided kayak river trips include lessons and are suitable for kids about age seven and up (in doubles with an adult). Guided raft trips are great for younger kids, dogs, and adults who aren't up for kayaking. They may paddle or be rowed. The river trips are often cited as the highlight of guests' vacations.
Trinity County is also heaven for hikers. There are wondrous areas throughout the county, but especially up in the Trinity Alps. One of the most popular hiking areas up is Canyon Creek. Motorcycle-riding guests will be impressed by the roads in Trinity County. They are all excellent for motorcycles and lightly traveled. Even the road up from Redding is fantastic—it's one long series of S-turns!
The Trinity River is home to a fantastic array of fish, including salmon, steelhead trout, German brown trout, and rainbow trout. Lewiston Lake and Trinity Lake both offer excellent fishing, and the tributaries are very popular, too. Summer fishing includes rainbow trout, German brown trout, and salmon. In winter, the prized fish that attracts fly fishers world-wide is the feisty steelhead.
Guests can also go bird watching and are sure to see bald eagles, osprey, kingfishers, herons, mergansers, golden eagles, and many other species. Lewiston Lake is excellent for bird life. Don't forget to go wine tasting at some of the excellent wineries in Trinity County. One of them is located less than a mile away from the glamping property.
