Panning out to the broader Santa Ynez Valley, guests will find a picturesque countryside composed of rolling hills, verdant pastures, lush vineyards, and the rugged peaks of the Santa Ynez Mountains to the south and the San Rafael Mountains to the north. Nestled deep inside Santa Barbara County’s wine country, the area abounds with wineries and wine tasting rooms, along with many fine-dining restaurants that take full advantage of the locally cultivated wines and produce. Nearby, Los Padres National Forrest offers nearly two million acres of woodlands and hiking trails, while Lake Cachuma provides ample opportunities for water sports.
In the Santa Ynez Valley, guests will also find a number of antique stores, art galleries, and other tourist attractions, such as Mattei’s Tavern, The Artisans Gallery, Sides Hardware and Shoes Restaurant, the Keenan/Hartley home, Larner Vineyard and Winery, and several locations that were featured in the film “Sideways,” all in Los Olivos.
The area is about 20 minutes north of the Pacific Ocean, 40 minutes north of Santa Barbara, two hours north of Los Angeles, and four hours south of San Francisco. Easily accessible from California State Highways 154 and 246, it is the perfect California road trip destination, as well as a short drive away from the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport.

During their stay, guests can visit more than 50 vineyards and wine tasting rooms in the Santa Ynez Valley. They can also dine at gourmet restaurants, such as Trattoria Grappolo, featuring locally sourced wines and ingredients. In addition to grapes, a variety of crops, apples, and olives are grown in the region, and guests can purchase the local produce from roadside apple and vegetable stands.
Guests seeking outdoor recreation will not be disappointed. They can go hiking at Los Padres National Forest, bicycling in the Valley, and kayaking, canoeing, fishing, cruising, and bald eagle watching at Lake Cachuma. The area also contains many opportunities for shopping at antique stores, perusing art galleries, and visiting tourist attractions, such as the sign-less Sides Hardware and Shoes Restaurant in Los Olivos.
At the cottage itself, guests can take strolls on the walking paths, say hello to the farm animals, and visit the vineyard.
