Sonoma County is famous for its superb food and wine and is home to more than 500 places to eat, included Michelin-rated restaurants. Chefs use delicious local produce like cheeses, olive oils, meats, and seafood, and meals can be accompanied by a delicious glass of Sonoma County’s Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. Glampers who enjoy spending time outdoors will love the Gualala Point Regional Park, which features hiking and biking trails, fishing in the river, picnic areas, and sandy beaches. Nature lovers can spot a variety of birds here, and there are possibilities to see migrating whales along this part of the coast. Between November and January, the whales leave Alaska and head south to give birth in warmer waters. From February into April, mother whales return north with their new calves, so these months are the best for whale watching. The Sea Ranch Chapel is definitely worth a visit, as it’s a stunning architectural gem, which resembles a bird taking flight. Guests can travel further afield to Fort Ross, 20 miles away, where they will discover reconstructed old buildings, which recall the fascinating history of the region, including a Russian chapel, a barracks, and a windmill. There’s also a museum offering details about the Native American, Russian, and Spanish heritage of the area.
