Joshua Tree National Park is minutes away from this early homestead adobe style house. Although built several decades ago, this classic has been renovated to modern standards and retains its original look and spirit. Located near all local amenities its PRIVACY and SECLUSION is ensured by plantings and fencing. The Mojave National Preserve, Amboy Crater, Wonder Valley and Old Route 66 are quick and easy day trips. The 29 Palms Marine Corps Base is a short drive.

Before we start, here are 4 THINGS PEOPLE LOVE about CACTUS ADOBE:

2 - We have AIR CONDITIONING to keep you cool during the warmer summer days.

4 - PETS welcome. We charge an additional $25 pet cleaning fee as part of our "Cleaning Fees." If you do not bring any pets with you, we will adjust your reservation fee accordingly.

Here are a few things to consider before renting:

1 - Although the setting is private we live in a residential area, so NO loud PARTIES are permitted in our home at all times during your stay.

2 - Our HOME IS OVER 80 YEARS OLD. Although we put a lot of time, love and effort to maintain it some aspects are charming but from another era. The bathroom, for example, features an open shower stall with room for one person only. You must step over a threshold to enter the shower. Unlike most desert homes our house has original hardwood floors which may squeak as you walk about the house. Actually, most Guests found these features of the property entirely charming.

3 - We do allow pets, so if you have allergies please take that into consideration.

Now that this is clear, let's get to the description of the place!
It has a unique charm about it that you notice immediately as you pull into the driveway. Over the garage, you will see the custom designed "TILE" sign above the wooden doors, the original owner operated his business from there. As you enter the property through the metal side gate with tree branch handle, you're greeted by the homeowner's collection of desert art and an abundance of cacti.

Here we use the back door as our main door that brings you into the sun porch at the back of the house. Straight ahead is the 2nd bedroom that comfortably sleeps two on the two twin beds. Take a step up into the galley kitchen and admire the color tiled counter-tops amidst the vintage stove and refrigerator.

Just beyond the kitchen, you'll find the open living and dining room spread out over the original wood floors. You can lose yourself in one of the many books from the homeowner's collection. And tucked away in the corner you will find an internet-connected television should you need something to entertain you after a long day of exploring the desert. The charm continues as you turn left into the hallway that leads to the tiled bathroom and the master bedroom.

Looking to enjoy the outdoors while on vacation? Outside on the back patio, you'll find a BBQ for grilling, lounge chairs and an outdoor fireplace to cozy up to while enjoying the star-studded skies above. There's also a roomy outdoor shower behind the garage equipped with hot and cold water for guests to enjoy.

Our home is surrounded by a cactus garden which includes a variety of native desert plants and cacti. There is metal art by well known local desert artists as well as found objects and artifacts which guests can enjoy.

We are great travelers ourselves and we will be happy to assist you when we are in town. When we are away, our friend Patricia will be happy to assist you with all of your needs while staying at the Cactus Adobe. Patricia has been a resident of the desert for 24 years and is quite knowledgeable about the area. And we are available to help by telephone at any time.

Our home is in town and very convenient to dining, shopping and the natural wonders which surround the area. The house is surrounded by fencing and natural desert trees, bushes and cacti. There is a feeling of being away from it all in a PRIVATE and SECLUDED setting. Although the area may seem quite and subdued there are many things to do and see. The Smith Ranch Drive in Movie theater is a classic must do. There is a public swimming pool nearby at Luckie Park. The is a golf course in town and you are welcome to use the outstanding golf course on the Marine Corps base ( by appointment). The Turtle Rock Casino is a few minutes away and if you don't care for gambling you can enjoy the food and big screen sports events as well as live music there.
Shopping at the COWBOY ATTIC is guaranteed fun. Look for Pioneer Days festival in Autumn and the famous WEED SHOW where entrant make beautiful art out of desert weeds. Visit our Theater located on Adobe road where you can see actors from around the world perform.
There is much to do and see in our neighborhood. Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have

California life demands that you have a car to get around. To experience the desert to the fullest a car is your best bet. However, there is public BUS transportation a short walk from the house which runs every half hour in both directions on Highway 62 and covers quite a distance from Wonder Valley to the east to Palm Springs to the west. There are also many local Taxi companies serving the area which are quite reliable.

We recommend that guests come prepared for the weather here in the desert. In the winter, the days are pleasant but the nights can get slightly chilly.

Spring and fall are some of our favorite times of the year as the weather is just right. Not too hot, not too cold. Best to dress in layers.

As for the summers, the daytime highs average in the upper 90s to the low 100s. We recommend you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and plan any outdoor activities such as hiking or rock climbing for the early mornings or late evenings.
We think of our houses as works of art. We hope you enjoy them as we do.
