Although fishing is the main attraction in the area, visitors to the area can also enjoy hiking and biking, beachcombing, and boating too. There's something for every type of hiker, from easy strolls and incredible views over the Oregon Dunes, to more challenging hikes in places like the Devil’s Staircase, nestled in between the Smith and Umpqua rivers, and hidden away in the heart of the Wassen Creek area. The more adventurous can even head to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, a 47-mile stretch of sand dunes, to try their hand at ATV riding. Not far from here is Tahkenitch Lake, where boating, swimming and fishing are popular activities. There are even more hiking trails nearby, for beautiful scenic hikes around the lake, through the dunes, and straight to the Pacific Ocean. For those days when guests don’t want to venture too far from the property, Scottsburg Park can be used as a boat launch to boat down the Umpqua River, too.
The Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area is also extremely popular, and with great numbers of wild elk close enough for some wildlife photography, this free attraction mustn’t be missed. In Reedsport itself, there is a selection of antiques and gift shops, galleries and great restaurants like the Sugar Shack Bakery. The Umpqua Discovery Center gives visitors an idea of what life was like for the Kuuich Indians and the early pioneers in his tidewater town.
