Adventures and sports
Guests can enjoy various actives on Dauphin Island, ranging from a relaxing stroll by the beach, an educational tour in the Estuarium, and the historical sites of Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines.
In Estuarium, guests can marvel over 100 species of marine animals including stingrays, turtles, and horseshoe crabs. Highlighted in the exhibits are the four coastal areas of Alabama and the species that reside here. These include Mobile Tensaw River Delta, the Barrier Islands, Mobile Bay, and the Northern Gulf of Mexico. One of the gems in the public aquarium is the 7,000-gallon stingray touch pool.
Another place to visit is Fort Morgan, which is a civil war structure dating back to 1800s. Another historic site is Fort Gaines where guests can see the fortress from around 1820s, with the original canon.
In addition, glampers can explore nature and go birdwatching in Audubon Bird Sanctuary for sightings of owls, cuckoos, shorebirds, seabirds, vultures, egrets, pelicans, falcons, and warblers just to name a few. Trails can also be explored in the sanctuary, covering over three miles of designated National Recreational Trail. Due to its diverse ecosystem of maritime forests, marshes, dunes, lake, and a beach, the sanctuary invites a lot of local and migratory birds, making it a globally important destination for bird migration. A secluded spot in Colony Cove is a perfect destination for photography, with the lovely lighthouse being the highlight.
