Sylacauga

Considered by many to be "Alabama's Best-Kept Secret", Sylacauga is a small, but progressive city in Talladega County. The climate here is excellent, with the Southern heat moderated by cool green forests and hills. Head to Isabel Anderson Comer Museum to see local art, with many sculptures carved from locally quarried white marble. For something a little unusual, head to the Monument to a Lady-Whacking Meteorite. The statue is dedicated to an eight-pound space rock that crashed through the roof of a local woman's house in 1954. And of course, the Talladega National Forest is a must-see, with its lush woodlands, mountains, and sparkling waterways. Head to Cheaha Mountain, the highest point in Alabama, or spend your time exploring the numerous trails by foot or bike.
