The Bayou flows on into the vast Gulf of Mexico and a number of dazzling lakes lie peppered throughout the region, including the nearby Lake de Cade and Lake Theriot. The famous Mississippi River winds through the land just a short ways away and on to join the gulf waters. Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge is less than half an hour away in Houma—its thousands of marshland acres accessible only via boat.
