At nearby Beavers Bend State Park and Hochatown State Park, which border each other, guests can go hiking and biking on a variety of trails. These include the acclaimed David Boren Trail, which is actually a network of seven trails that can be traveled individually or in various combinations to suit guests' time and difficulty preferences. While exploring the trails, guests can keep an eye out for wildlife and birds such as deer, foxes, raccoons, great blue herons, eagles, and woodpeckers. Eagle watching tours are available from park rangers between November and February.

At the state parks, guests will also find a swimming beach and the Cedar Creek Golf Course, the entrance to which is right across the road from the cabin site. The beach is located on the shore of Broken Bow Lake, where guests can also go motor boating, paddle boating, jet skiing, and fishing for fish such as largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, crappie, sunfish, channel catfish, and walleye. Fly fishing clinics are available at Beaver Bend State Park between November and April.

For kayaking and canoeing, guests can head to Mountain Fork River, which flows into and out of the lake. Watercraft rentals and trips are available from a variety of local outfitters, including Wild Goose Canoe and Kayak Rentals, Beavers Bend Marina, Ambush Adventures, Beaver Bend Paddle Boats, Tippa Canoe Rentals, and WW Trading Post and Canoe.

Guests interested in horseback riding can go on rides with Riverman Trail Rides and Stables, as well as Beavers Bend Depot and Stables. The former can also take guests on rappelling adventures, while the latter offers a scenic train ride. Alternatively, to enjoy the region's natural beauty by car, guests can take a drive on the Talimena National Scenic Byway.

Other local activity options include ziplining at Rugaru Adventures Ziplining Tour, putt-putt golfing at Michey Miniature Golf Course, visiting the Forest Heritage Center Museum and the Gardener Mansion and Museum, encountering animals at the Hochatown Petting Zoo, and birdwatching and wildlife viewing at the Little River National Wildlife Refuge, Red Slough Wildlife Management Area, and the McCurtain County Wilderness Area.

For even more opportunities to enjoy nature and outdoor recreation, guests can head north to the 1.8 million-acre Ouachita National Forest, where they can go hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and rockhounding.

For dining, shopping, and enjoying beer and wine, guests can head to the many cafes, restaurants, bars, and wineries in the nearby towns of Broken Bow, Valliant, and Idabel.
