Tiptonville

Tiptonville, Tennessee is in the far west of the state, only a few miles shy of the mighty Mississippi whose meandering course forms the border with nearby Missouri. The town is located by Reelfoot Lake, unusually both of recent creation and entirely natural, formed as a consequence of the 1811-1812 earthquakes in New Madrid. The resulting body of water has become a haven for wildlife with over 200 species of birds recorded in its vicinity from innumerable shorebirds to impressive raptors such as the iconic bald eagle and swift peregrine falcon. Local companies provide visitors with tours to the best locations to see these majestic wildfowl, though many glampers will opt to go hiking unsupervised in the many paths around the shoreline and neighboring wetlands. Other available activities include fishing and boating, with boat hire available at the local marina.
