Turtletown

The tiny settlement of Turtletown, Tennessee, located near a small lake in the densely forested ridges and hollows of the Appalachian foothills north of the tourist destination of Copperhill, makes a perfect base from which to explore the scenic splendor of the Tennessee mountains and backwoods. The nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with the largest undisturbed old-growth forests in the eastern USA and a varied eco-system that includes everything from bald eagles to salamanders, contains some of the most epic scenery in the whole of the Appalachian chain and is a firm favorite with hikers, skiers, and mountain-bikers. For the less energetic, nearby Copperhill offers scenic railroad rides through mountain wilderness to nearby destinations such as Blue Ridge, Georgia. Others will simply enjoy getting away from it all for a quiet lakeside retreat where the sounds of woodpeckers and rustling leaves are the only things to disturb the peace.
