Palacios

The area where Palacios, Texas now lies was originally inhabited by the Karankawa people. Spanish expeditions first arrived in the 16th century, and then English-speaking settlers arrived in the 1820’s, effectively pushing out the native people. Today, Palacios is a huge shrimping port with about 400 boats. Visitors can also go fishing, boating, and bird watching along the waterfront and the pier. The Tres Palacios Bay flows into the Matagorda Bay, which provides access to the Gulf of Mexico. Water sports like sailing, kiteboarding, windsurfing, paddleboarding, and more are prolific.
