Rockport

In 1867, a wharf was founded along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico that would later become Rockport, Texas. The town developed and grew along with the meat packing industry and later shipbuilding and tourism. These days shrimping is a major industry and visitors should be sure to sample some delicious seafood. Being so close to the seas is conducive to sailing trips, deep sea fishing, and boating of any kind. Rockport Beach Park is perfect for visiting during the hot, humid summer. Go swimming, waterskiing, or snorkeling in the Aransas Bay. Visit the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge to see whooping cranes, ruby-throated hummingbirds, and many other bird species. Go hiking through the live oaks in the area, including the infamous “Big Tree,” the state’s oldest oak. Head to Rockport, Texas for your next glamping trip.
