The Boat House at Choctaw Lodge Retreat | Ponce de Leon, Florida

Cottage in Ponce de Leon, FL

4 guests • 2 bedrooms • 2 beds • 1 bathroom

New

The Lodge is located on the banks of the Choctawhatchee River between Ebro and Bruce, FL. Though secluded, guests are only 25 minutes away from Panama City Beach and 30-45 minutes away from Destin, Seaside, and Grayton Beach. For those who wish to venture away from the beaches, there are several local springs close by to visit as well as Florida’s only caverns, known as the Marianna Caverns.

The EO Wilson Biophilia Nature Center at Nokuse Plantation is only seven miles from the Lodge and borders much of the Nokuse Conservation property. The Lodge riverfront property includes two guest cottages for rent and the main owner's lodge nestled among an array of indigenous trees including cypress, cedar, and hardwoods. Many species of flowers, birds (some rare), and animals can be viewed on this beautiful river. Through guided tours, you will discover hidden natural springs and lakes only the locals know about, or you may venture out on your own exploring in canoes and kayaks. Your days end with sunsets around the fire pits or a sunset cruise in the lodge’s skiff. With only a handful of dwellings between the lodge and Highway 20, the lodge is surrounded by tens of thousands of acres dedicated to preservation through water management, plus the Nokuse Plantation, with its 48,000 acres of protected land, ensuring the survival and conservation of this beautiful area.

"This is not your typical rental property," explains Kathryn, "It is a "RETREAT" offering so much more and is dedicated to the conservation of this beautiful and rare part of Northwest Florida. It is a peaceful, tranquil lifestyle we have grown to love, and it is our pleasure to make sure your stay at Choctaw Lodge Retreat is memorable. After your initial visit, we will anxiously await your return, as everyone who experiences this river and the Lodge Retreat does return!"

The Boat House is one of our two recently renovated cottages. It is a two-bedroom/one bath with a fully equipped kitchen for all your cooking needs, living room with a fold-out couch, a gas fireplace, and a roomy screened-in porch overlooking the historic Choctawhatchee River.

Nestled in the swamps among cypress trees, our guests spend leisurely days strolling through the beautiful grounds that include gardens, walkways, and hammocks. Your price includes the use of our canoes and kayaks at your leisure, and breakfast in the mornings in the main lodge.
