Tallahassee

When people think about Florida they typically imagine sky-high palm trees, crystal-clear water, and mile-long white "sugar" sand beaches, manatees, alligators, and dolphins. But come to the capital of Florida, Tallahassee, and discover a laidback and genteel Southern town with rolling hills, oak-lined streets, old plantation homes, and that famous Southern hospitality. It's home to Florida State University and Florida A&M University, as well as Florida's Legislature, giving the town a unique ambience of college town meets politics. There's also plenty of art and culture to see here, as well as the 10-block historic district, which is home to numerous gracious homes, a historic inn, restaurants, and much more. Cycle or walk down the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail.
