Greensboro

Dating back to 1786, Greensboro is the county seat and hometown of Lake Oconee. The town is steeped in Southern history, and to this day retains an old-fashioned charm and authentic Southern hospitality. Wander the streets, looking at the elegant antebellum architecture of many gracious homes and churches. But there is also the darker side to local history, as evidenced in the Greensboro "Gaol" - one of the oldest penal structures in the state. Downtown is filled with antique stores, chic boutiques, eateries, restaurants, cafes, and much more. It is also close to the stunning Lake Oconee, which has more than 400 miles of shoreline to explore. Here you can go boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and much more. Lake Oconee is also home to ten championship golf courses.
