The quaint town of Burnsville, is just 45 minutes from Asheville. Burnsville is home to Mt Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, the Mount Mitchell Craft Fair (first weekend in Aug annually), some of the most talented craft artisans in the country, a live performing arts theater, the historic Yancey Movie Theater, dining options offering local musical entertainment and endless miles of mountain hiking (including right outside the cabin's front door).

The Toe River Arts Counsel hosts studio tours of artist personal studios to witness up front and personal their craft in the making. These self-guided tours are schedules a weekend in June and a weekend in December annually.
