Perfect for a getaway in nature with a loved one, this rustic tree house getaway near West Jefferson, North Carolina, is built around a live tree, which grows through the center of this hexagon-shaped cabin. This wonderful space is tucked up high on the hillside with a significant flight of stairs that has to be climbed up to access the treetop cabin.

It has a large private deck looking out into the woods. This is a primitive camping cabin that is perfect for two people or a small family. It is furnished with a memory foam full size platform bed, an armchair and an end table. The hosts provide sheets, pillows, blankets, and towels for this cabin. The tree house does not have electricity or plumbing. However, the hosts do provide a battery operated lantern for guest convenience. It has real windows and doors with screens to feel the cool mountain breezes. Guests have access to the lodge building for the full bathroom which can be used at any time. Hosts provide a propane space heater for the cooler months.

Outside, a short distance from the private deck, is a campfire ring complete with dry firewood and a couple of Adirondack chairs for guests to use. A tripod grill is also available if guests would like to cook over a wood fire. Dogs are allowed if prearranged for an additional fee.

Weekends during July, August and October require a 2 night minimum stay. Guests should inquire with the host if they are looking to stay just 1 night on a weekend as the hosts can sometimes accommodate that request. Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day have a 3 night minimum stay. Read More

The cabins are located in Ashe County, at the historic Healing Spring with easy access to all that this region has to offer, such as West Jefferson’s thriving art culture, coffee shops, boutiques, and emporiums. A visit to Ashe County’s Farmer’s Market is highly recommended, where visitors can sample homemade cheese. The Church of Fresco has fabulous works by artist such as Benjamin Long.

There is also a local movie theater and charming nearby towns like West Jefferson, Lansing and Sparta are definitely worth a visit. Guests can also embark on fabulous hikes at Grayson Highlands State Park, where there are herds of wild ponies, and see stunning views from the top of Mount Jefferson. Some other great hiking locations include Doughton Park, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, and the Appalachian Trail.
