This knowledgeable host will encourage guests to explore the stunning outdoors of the wild West Coast, Paparoa National Park or Arthur’s Pass National Park. With lakes, rivers, mountains, and coastline all within easy reach, guests have an array of outdoor activities and attractions to enjoy. Guests will be within walking distance to the West Coast Wilderness Trail, park, award-winning hotel and only a short drive from the spectacular beaches on the West Coast.

Kumara and the West Coast offer visitors and locals alike a variety of outdoor activities and attractions to explore. Guests can hike along the spectacular trails of Paparoa National Park and Arthur’s Pass National Park, which are both located with an hour’s drive of the property. There are lots of day walks in the areas around Hokitika and Greymouth - each a 20 min drive away - as well as museums, galleries and local shops to explore.

Closer to the property, guests can take a walk or bike along the scenic Wilderness Cycle Trail or check out the Theatre Royal Hotel in Kumara village for good food and a few beers. 30 minutes from the property is the West Coast Treetop Walk, a canopy walkway near the town of Hokitika. Only a short distance away is the historic village at Shantytown, complete with steam train and gold panning, a wonderful activity for the whole family.
