Petersburg

About a quarter of the Civil War was fought around Petersburg, making it rich with historical attractions. History buffs will have plenty to keep them busy between the battlefields, museums, and parks that tell the story of the events that shaped the nation’s birth. Not to be missed is Henricus Historical Park, a 32-acre living history museum. Its recreated Arrohateck Indian Village brings visitors back to a time before native people made contact with the English and demonstrates their way of life through demonstrations of cookery, tool making, and farming. Ready to get back to modern civilization? Petersburg has plenty of modern attractions to explore, from fresh farmer’s markets, wining and dining on local fare, and heating up the nights to the sounds of jazz and blues.
