While exploring the waterways and islands of the bay, guests may see ospreys, terms, and grey wolves, the latter of which can be found on Franklin Island.
With four provincial parks within a 40-minute radius of the site, guests will also be well-positioned to enjoy hiking, biking, birdwatching, and wildlife viewing. Guests will find recreational trails at Oastler Lake Provincial Park, Massasauga Provincial Park, and Killbear Provincial Park. For off-trail, backcountry hiking adventures, guests can head to Round Lake Provincial Park. At the parks, guests may see a variety of birds mammals, and reptiles, including spotted turtles, Blanding's turtles, map turtles, five-lined skinks, Massasauga rattlesnakes, beavers, moose, deer, bears, otters, cormorants, prairie warblers, and blue herons.
Guests interested in biking can rent bicycles from Parry Sound Bikes in Parry Sound, where, in addition to the trails of the parks mentioned above, they can go biking on the Parry Sound waterfront, the Rose Point Trail, and the trails of the Georgian Nordic Activity Center.
In the winter, the Georgian Nordic Activity Center offers more than 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Other popular winter activities in the area include snowmobiling and ice skating. Snowmobiles can be rented from dealers such as Rosseau Road Powersports And Marine Ltd., while an ice skating rink can be found at Parry Sound's Bobby Orr Community Centre and Kinsmen Park.
At Parry Sound, guests will find a variety of options for shopping, dining, art gallery browsing, and enjoying spa services. Here, they can also visit the West Parry Sound District Museum and attend performances at the Charles W Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts and the Festival of Sound—an outdoor chamber music festival that takes place right on the scenic shores of Georgian Bay.
