Scenic views
Between Shebeshekong Bay and the main body of Georgian Bay, the pristine waters of the lake weave through a labyrinth of inlets, channels, and waterways flowing between hundreds of islands ringed with pink-grey granite shorelines and forested with windswept pines. Ranging from tiny unnamed isles to the larger Narrows Island and Franklin Island, the islands form part of the bay's Thirty Thousand Islands, which represent the largest freshwater archipelago in the entire world and constitute the UNESCO-designated Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve.
Inland, guests will find an unspoiled natural landscape of verdant conifer forests, peaceful ponds, and flourishing marshes, many of which are home to beavers. The site is about 22 minutes to the north of Killbear Provincial Park, where guests will find sandy beaches, rocky ridges, pine forests, and wetlands that provide habitats to a variety of creatures, including spotted turtles and Blanding's turtles. About an equal distance in the opposite direction, guests will find Round Lake Provincial Park, which is home to one of the largest colonies of great blue herons in the region. In less than 38 minutes, guests can also visit Oastler Lake Provincial Park and Massasauga Provincial Park, the latter of which encompasses hundreds of islands, lakes, cliffs, bays, inlets, and pine forests that are home to beavers, moose, deer, bears, otters, cormorants, prairie warblers, map turtles, five-lined skinks, and Massasauga rattlesnakes.
The site is about 20 minutes from the restaurants, shops, grocery stores, art galleries, spas, and hospital of downtown Parry Sound, where guests will also find attractions such as the Charles W Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, the Festival of Sound chamber music festival, and the West Parry Sound District Museum. The site is about two hours and 45 minutes from Toronto, where the nearest international airport is located.
