National Parks - Costa Rica is home to 4% of the world's biodiversity, which makes it an amazing spot to discover unique and exotic flora and fauna. The retreat lies near Corcovado National Park, Caño Island Biological Reserve, Terraba-Sierpe Mangroves, Manuel Antonio National Park, the Ballena National Marine Park, and more. The lodge offers hiking and boating trips on the rivers and through the dense rainforests. During your trips you will observe white-faced, spider and howler monkeys, sloths, coatis, raccoons, tapirs, crocodiles, snakes, and pumas. The birdlife includes the colorful scarlet macaw, the largest parrot in the world, which is in danger of extinction.
Diving & Snorkeling - Caño Island Biological Reserve is a paradise for diving and snorkeling. You will see turtles, dolphins, sting rays, moray eels, barracudas, tuna, snapper, parrot fish, puffers, and so on. If you're interested in deeper diving away from the island, you will have the unique opportunity to see white-tipped reef shark, silky shark, bull shark, whale shark and humpback whales. Day tours are offered and include a picnic lunch and a guided hike on the island.
Beaches - Secluded beaches that are within a 15 to 25 minute drive include Uvita, Ballena, Arco and Piñuela. Here is a small description of each beach:
Uvita - At low tide, the iconic sandbar is shaped like a whale's tail. The sandbar is perfect for swimming and the southern end of the beach is ideal for amateur surfers
Arco & Ballena - Both are secluded, private beaches that offer stunning coastal landscapes great for taking a romantic stroll.
Piñuela - You will find many fishing boats anchored in this small cove. The pebbled beach is great for swimming on the south side but also for moderate surfing.
Ventanas - this beach has huge rocky caves and tunnels right at the water's edge.
Hermosa - if you're interested in picture-perfect sunsets, then Hermosa beach is where you must go. It's a light grey sand beach where you will also find surfers and boogie boarders.
Dominical - this beach is a hot spot for more experienced surfers. The beach also has quaint little beachfront bars and restaurants with souvenirs.
Whale Watching - The Pacific Ocean in this area offers spectacular opportunities to observe the humpback whale. Half day whale watching trips are offered. During your trip, you will also observe bottle whales and the bottle nose and spotted dolphins.
Waterfalls - Half day trips to the nearby waterfalls can also be arranged. The imposing Nauyaca waterfall is a 40 minute drive from the lodge. The cascades are up to 148 ft. free fall and one is 66 ft. in height. The cascades form deep water pools that are ideal for swimming. A trip to the waterfalls also includes horseback riding and lunch at a local restaurant.
Adventures - Other exhilarating activities in this area include whitewater rafting, ziplining, kayaking, waterfall rappelling, surf lessons, and 4x4 vehicle safaris.
