About this place
Inspired by the great Huckleberry Finn novel, this enchanting cottage rental near Lamia, Greece, is built with local timber and river stones, featuring an oversize bay window with a built-in divan, which break down the barriers between the hand-crafted wooden interior and the farm’s exterior space, a bed in a niche which can be separated for privacy by double curtains, a fireplace in the middle of the living area and a suite-like attic. This cottage is set in Central Greece and provides guests with a magical ambiance further enhanced by adjustable lighting, lamps, as well as the black and white photographs of Alex Slade.
The ground floor is furnished with an open plan sitting and bedroom area that includes a divan, a king-size bed, a chest of drawers, and a bathroom with a bathtub. The cottage is also equipped with a cable television with a DVD player, Wi-Fi, a hi-fi system, a fireplace and autonomous heating in each area.
The cottage is also furnished with a kitchenette including a filter coffee maker, an espresso machine, a mini bar fridge. To make life a little bit easier for guests, the host has kindly stocked the kitchen with a few essential such as espresso and filter coffee, tea, both white and brown sugar and evaporated milk. The host has also provided guests with a hair dryer, face and bath towels, and face, body liquid soap and shampoo for the bathroom.
Extra amenities around the glamping cottage include sheets, duvets, fur bed covers, outdoor blankets, firelighters, tealight candles, hiking sticks, umbrellas and a torch, which all add together to provide a luxury stay for all guests.
Outside of the accommodation guests will find a sun deck which has been furnished with a chaise lounge, garden seats and benches, a barbecue, and charcoal, firewood, a picnic table that can seat up to six people and finally a parking space.
Certain aspects of the farm, such as the organic garden, the pond with its dam and wooden bridge, the rock garden full of herbs, the tree house, the stone fountain and the natural spring fed by water from a mountain peak deep in the national park, help create a truly idyllic setting that is far from a commonplace.
There is a chapel on site with a bell tower, which looks like it has been lifted from an Alpine slope. There is also a tavern, where guests can enjoy meals, snacks, and drinks or play games beside the wood burning stove. The stable has a traditional wooden facade reminiscent of Normandy and a hayloft full of authentic ethnic memorabilia.
Guests will also find a charming rabbit hutch, a tractor shed, a stone built pen and drinking trough for the sheep and goats, a poultry house, and a pond for the ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens and guinea fowl that roam freely, which all serve to confirm this glamping farm's credentials as a genuine working farm.
The most prominent landmark on this glamping site is the log built observation tower, which is 20 meters high. The tower affords an amazing 360 degree view that takes in not only four of central Greece’s most stunning peaks (Mt. Kallidromo, Mt. Othrys, Mt. Oiti and Mt. Giona) but also the sea. Guests can use the telescope to zoom in on points of interest in the surrounding countryside or stargaze to the rustling of leaves, the gurgling of streams and other sounds of the forest.
The farm is completed by impressive stands of trees; tall poplars and characteristic local species such as arbutus, tilia, circis as well as acacia, plane, oak and willow. Depending on the season, guests will be able to savor freshly picked mirabelles, sour cherries, hazelnuts, sweet cherries, plums, apples, quinces, chestnuts, and walnuts.
Kids will also love the outdoor play area with swings, slides, and a playhouse.
