A remote wooden mountain house on the slopes of Mt Agung, far from the crowds and deep in nature.

Cook, hike, light a fire, and slow down. This is Bali at its quietest.

Spend your days exploring the surrounding forest and taking in the mountain air.
At night, the temperature drops, the stars come out, and the silence really sets in.

THE MOUNTAIN HOUSE

Set at 1,100 meters between Mt. Agung and Mt. Abang, the house is tucked away in one of the most secluded corners of East Bali.

The house sits on half a hectare of private land, surrounded by forest, open views, and very little else. There’s a small organic garden, fruit trees, a simple campfire area, and plenty of space to unwind.

Hidden trails start right from the house. You can explore on your own or head out with a local guide, from short walks to nearby temples to full-day hikes through the forest and along the ridges between the mountains.

The house itself is entirely built from wood, simple in design but warm and comfortable. It was originally our family’s part-time home, created for spending quality time together.

This is a remote mountain stay. There are no nearby shops, no traffic, and no crowds, just nature and a slower pace of life.

FOOD & COOKING

You’re encouraged to bring groceries and make full use of the kitchen, pantry, and anything growing in the garden. Many guests enjoy cooking here as part of the experience.

At the same time, we offer a small selection of home-cooked meals prepared in our service cabin kitchen. These are traditional dishes, freshly prepared by our team using local ingredients.

This is a very small kitchen, so meals need to be ordered in advance and are best enjoyed as part of the slower rhythm of the house, not as a full restaurant service.

You can mix both, cook some meals yourself, and let us take care of others.

REMOTE AREA, PLAN AHEAD

The house is in a very rural area, far from modern conveniences.

- Nearest supermarket and proper restaurants are about 30 minutes away
- Small local shops are closer, but very basic

We recommend planning your groceries in advance.

HELP ON SITE

Our team, Yoni and Kariasih, are usually around during the day.
They mainly take care of the garden and house, but are happy to help with small things.

They speak Indonesian, but we’re always reachable if needed.

ACTIVITIES & DAY TRIPS

Despite the remote setting, the house works well as a base to explore East Bali.

Within about 30 minutes:

- Besakih Temple
- Kintamani and Lake Batur
- Sidemen rice fields
- Northern coast for snorkeling and quiet beaches

Or simply stay at the house, slow down, and enjoy the surroundings.

Guest access
You’ll have the entire house and property to yourselves.

Our team visits during the day, otherwise you’ll have full privacy.

The final 400 meters of road is unpaved and can feel a bit adventurous at first, but it is manageable with a regular car or motorbike if driven slowly.

There is covered parking for one car, with additional space on the property for more vehicles.

We can help arrange transport if needed. Gojek and Grab are not available in this area.

CLIMATE

At 1,100m elevation, nights can get cold.
Bring warm clothes such as long pants, a sweater, and socks.

It can also rain, especially during the rainy season (typically November to March), so bringing a raincoat or light waterproof jacket is recommended.

HIKING

There are many secluded hiking opportunities surrounding the house, most of them off the beaten path and rarely used by others.

You can explore on your own or head out with a local guide. Options range from short scenic walks to more demanding full-day treks:

- 2–4 hour hikes to quiet temples with views of Mt. Agung and Mt. Abang
- 3–4 hour riverbed hike through a jungle gorge
- 5–6 hour ridge hike across multiple peaks
- 6-hour summit trek to Mt. Abang (2,152m)

For those looking to summit Mt. Agung (3,031m), we can help arrange a guided sunrise trek. The starting point is about a 20-minute drive from the house.

SURROUNDINGS

The house is very secluded, but it is still part of a rural village area, and everyday life continues around it.

From time to time, you may hear logging in the distance, see villagers moving through the area, or hear motorbikes on nearby paths. In the evenings, you might see flashlights in the forest and, on rare occasions, hear music from village events in the distance.

Visitors are still quite rare in this area, so you may notice the occasional curious look from villagers as you cross paths.

Insects and wildlife, such as mosquitoes and flies, are part of the tropical mountain environment.
