The lake is about 208km north of Nairobi, and to the west is the southern part of the Elgeyo Escarpment and the Tugan Hills. The island is 3,190 meters above sea level. The Rift Valley that the lake and island find themselves in extend 3,000 miles, from the Red Sea shore to the coast of Mozambique in the southeast of the continent.

Culture Walks: You can walk around and across the island and visit the school. This will give you a look into the culture of Njema.
